                General Bubs Product Questions

What is the difference when comparing Bubs formulas?

What is the ratio of whey to casein protein in the Bubs formulas?

Infant formula typically has a modified whey: casein ratio (60:40) to bring it closer to that found in breastmilk which is whey-dominant.

The Whey to Casein ratio changes with the formula and with the changing nutritional demand for babies, for example in Stage 3, it drops to the natural levels of whey to casein in milk of around 80:20.

How do I transition my baby safely to Bubs / New Formula?

Given the current shortage in the US you are not alone. Switching formula brands can take time, so do be patient as your baby transitions to the new formula.

HOWEVER – If your baby is on a specialty formula or has an allergy, sensitivity or other issues with past formula ingredients, always talk to your paediatrician before switching.

All babies react to change in formula differently. Due to the sensitivity of their tiny tummy, they may experience some change in their digestion or stool pattern or color for a few days. If you notice anything unusual or your baby seems uncomfortable, call your paediatrician to give your baby a smooth transition from their current formula to Bubs. Some pediatricians recommend mixing your previous formula with the new formula (see chart below), and if your baby tolerates the new formula, you can gradually increase the amount of new formula and decrease the amount of previous formula in the bottle over a few days.

If transitioning is an option, we recommend following the below table:

Why do you have different stages 0-6 months/ 6-12 months:

In Australia we have specific standards & nutritional requirements for our infant nutrition for each stage & stage of development

These age brackets follow the stringent infant nutrition guidelines set by FSANZ (the food safety guidelines we follow in Australia), as 0-6 month old babies, have different nutrient requirements for 6-12 months babies). These age specific nutrition guidelines were made to more closely approximate breast milk nutrients which evolve as babies age.

How do I know what Stage to start my baby on?

We recommend starting your baby on the formula that is closest to their age bracket as these are developed for the specific nutritional needs of that aged baby.

For Toddler Milk formula (ages 12-36 months), as per Paediatric advice, is fine to use for babies who are 6months + and already on solid foods. Of course, always check with your Paediatrician if unsure and definitely only use a specialty formula, if your baby has special medical needs.

The tins are in metric units of measure. What are the conversions?

Bubs Conversion from Metric units for American families

Bubs Stage 1 Feeding Guides On Pack (Metric Units)

                      (30 ml = 1 fluid ounce)

Bubs Stage 2 Feeding Guides On Pack (Metric Units)

                      (30 ml = 1 fluid ounce)

What is the size of the scoop?

The scoop on average holds 8.8g/0.31oz (this is the same for all Bubs & Aussie Bubs products)

May I vary the amount of water per scoop?

It is important to follow the exact measuring and mixing directions on every formula container. Don’t add extra water to stretch your formula supply. This will dilute essential nutrients which can lead to major health problems and harm the normal growth and development of the infant.

Are Bubs Australia Infant Formulas European?

Bubs Australia and Aussie Bubs formulas are made in Australia under FSANZ manufacturing & guidelines. We use elements of the European baby food regulations to set a maximum contaminant threshold for our formulas.

I’ve changed to Bubs and my baby is now constipated

Babies have sensitive digestive systems and switching formula may cause a temporary decrease in stool pattern. This is usually resolved on its own in a few days, but if your baby is uncomfortable, isn’t feeding well or your baby goes more than 3 to 5 days without stooling, call your paediatrician.

Do you have sample size formula so I can try Bubs or Aussie Bubs before I buy it?

We have Aussie Bubs Toddler Formula sample sachets for both Goat & Cow Milk – if you share your details, we can send you a sample of the product you are interested in With regards to samples sizes for the Bubs Stages 1 & 2, we voluntarily comply with the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendations, and the Marketing in Australia of Infant Formulas (MAIF) agreement, which does not support the sampling of infant formulas by manufacturers directly to parents or carers of babies. Therefore, we are unfortunately, unable to supply you with a sample on Infant Formula. However, as per Paediatric advice, Toddler Formula is fine to use for babies who are 6months + and already on solid foods. Of course, always check with your Paediatrician if unsure, and definitely only use a specialty formula, if your baby has special medical needs.

Are you Certified Organic In the USA?

Aussie Bubs products are sourced from the same ingredients and produced in the same organic certified manufacturing facility as Bubs.

Among our three product lines, only Bubs Cow Milk Formula is dual certified organic in Australia with our Australian Certified Organic (ACO) & National Association for Sustainable Agriculture (NAASA) certifications, which are both rigorous certifications and audited on an annual basis.

Unfortunately, as there is not one organic certification globally, and whilst we are certified Organic in Australia, we are not currently organic certified in the USA yet, but actively pursuing the USDA Organic certification.

What size are the Aussie Bubs & Bubs Formula Tins?

All Bubs tins are 800g/ 28.22oz

Why is there a gap in the top of the tin of formula?

Formula powders are packed by weight, not volume, powder tends to settle and compress over time, so at the time of filling, the product level normally sits higher compared to where it would be in 3 or 4 or 6 months later. Our state-of-the-art equipment weighs every single tin to a high level of accuracy.
All our products are carefully weighed during our manufacturing process. It’s very normal for the our formula powder to settle during transport and storage. Please rest assure that the weighted amount is as we have stated on the packaging.

What is the QR code which has been laser etched on the bottom of the tin?

This is what we call our “Bubs Trust Code”. We developed this so that each of our products have their own unique digital identity.
If you scan this code with your phone, it will automatically link you to a website which will tell you that the product is a genuine Bubs product produced in our high-quality manufacturing facility in Australia.
This offers product traceability through full transparency of our milk formula manufacturing process, from our milk supply to the end consumers.

                                      Can you freeze formula?

We don't recommend freezing the formula. You don't need to as it can be stored at room temperature and can be used for up to 4 weeks after opening the foil seal. We do not recommend you freeze any formula in the freezer for a number of reasons. Storing powder in refrigerated conditions exposes the powder to condensation. This can cause the powdered ingredients to clump. As a result, the powder may not mix/reconstitute as well when formula is prepared. We recommend that you store it in the pantry for up to 4 weeks.

                                      What is Potable Water?

Drinking water which is safe enough to be consumed by humans with minimal risk of short-term or long-term harm.

For example: cooled previously boiled water (ensure you check the temperature before giving to baby)

How do I store Bubs Formula?

Store in a cool, dry place under 25 degrees Celsius / 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Use within 4 weeks of opening. Do not use if foil seal is damaged or missing.

                                          What is Clean Label?

All Bubs & Aussie Bubs formula products have received the Clean Label Purity Award.

Clean Label Project™ is a national non-profit organization in the USA with the mission to bring truth and transparency to food and consumer product label. The Clean Label Project™ award is given to brands with products that place an emphasis on purity of ingredients and surpass the minimum regulations required. At Bubs®, we pride ourselves on using pure ingredients to provide clean label nutrition for your little one. In fact, our formulas have been independently tested for purity, and proudly received a Clean Label Project® Purity Award.

This evidence-based verification gives parents peace of mind in knowing that their toddler is obtaining pure nutrition, free from heavy metals, pesticide residues, plasticizers and other chemicals and toxins.

What is the First 1,000 day promise?

The First 1,000 Day Promise is the first Standard to use elements of the EU baby food regulations to set a maximum contaminant threshold for products for pregnant women, infants, lactating mothers and children

Aussie Bubs and Bubs formulas are the first formulas to be certified with the First 1,000 Day Promise Standard, which is part of the Clean Label Project.

                                          https://cleanlabelproject.org/First-1000-Day-Promise/

Why is my formula not dissolving?

For best solubility results with all stages of formula, we do recommend that previously boiled, and cooled water is used up to between 40-45C/104-113F, poured into the bottle, then add the required number of scoops of powder as per the preparation instructions into the water & shake or mix/stir well

Always check the formula is at body temperature first and test the temperature before giving it to your baby

Why do Bubs products include Whole Milk when all US products use Skim Milk?

Bubs products utilise whole milk powder as part of their base ingredients, as it provides infants with more nutrients and fat. At this early stage of life fat is essential for optimal brain, cognitive and improved visual development

By utilising whole milk babies are receiving a more natural, complete food. Often when skim milk powder is used the introduction of other fats is necessary to achieve the ideal fat ratio to make the product a ‘complete food’. By utilising whole milk this limits the addition of other fats being added as some of this fat is found naturally in whole milk.

Whole cow’s milk is also naturally higher in vitamins such as potassium, iron, and vitamin E.

Do Bubs & Aussie Bubs Products contain Canola Oil?

Canola oil delivers the dietary essential fatty acid linolenic acid which is required for normal growth and development. Canola oil supports a fatty acid profile more similar to that of human milk.

Can I give my baby cows milk at 6 months?

Adult cows milk is not fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, like iron, which is key during the first 1,000 days of life. It also contains high levels of protein which might not be suitable for a 6-month-old. Instead of cow’s milk, talk to your pediatrician about a clean, fortified, nutrient-rich, toddler formula. Toddler formulas like Aussie Bubs, contain the iron your little one's needs, plus the protein levels are much closer to those found in infant formulas.

What's the difference between your cows milk formula and goats milk formula?

We understand every child is different. That’s why our Bubs nutritional experts have developed premium quality formulations with both Organic Grass Fed Cow Milk and Easy Digest Goat Milk, to cater to both dietary preferences. Our Goat Milk Formula is made with A2 goat protein, which is naturally gentle and easier to digest, for those with more sensitive tummies

What are the numbers on the bottom of the tin?

Our date codes are a little different to your dates in the USA. In Australia, and with all our Bubs products, we follow a Day, Month, Year format (DD, MM, YYYY).

The first two numbers in the code represent the day, the next two letters the month, and the next two numbers the year.

The Use By Date is the “Expiry Date” – after this date your product should not be consumed.

The “EST Number” is the Australian Government Approved Exportation Establishment Number for the manufacture and export of dairy products.
8 digit batch number is also known as the Lot Number

6-digit number after the EST 2612 represents the serial number of the tin in a particular batch.

Do Bubs baby formulas have any other animal product apart from milk?

There are no animal products in Bubs formulas other than the milk & lactose

                                                      Feeding Guide Questions

How do I change to Bubs or Aussie Bubs without upsetting my baby?

                                                        Toddler Formula

Where can I buy Aussie Bubs Toddler Formula?

All of the our Aussie Bubs retailers can be found on our website

What’s the difference between toddler milk and toddler formula?

It depends on the brand, but toddler milks might contain added sugars which are not recommended at a young age. Toddler formulas, like Aussie Bubs, contain no artificial sweeteners, non-GMO ingredients or artificial growth hormones and they are fortified with 17 vitamins and minerals, including iron.

Can I feed my baby Aussie Bubs Toddler Formula?

The recommended age for Toddler Formula is 12 months +

However, if your baby is 6 months old plus, eating solids & you have consulted with your pediatrician, you can safely use Toddler Formula

Talk to your paediatrician about whether toddler formula is appropriate nutrition for your older infant (age 6 months+) depending on their diet and growth.

                                                          Bubs Organic Cows Milk Information

What is the ideal water temperature for Bubs Organic Cow Formula to dissolve without clumping?

Please keep the temperature at a maximum of 40C 104F since we want to preserve the probiotics in the formula. Please ensure you put in the water first, then the powder, and then stir.

Please be sure NOT to add hot water to the powder then wait for it to cool down before stirring since this will cause clumping.

Is your organic grass fed formula A1 or A2?

Bubs Organic milk formula is made with organic milk sourced from grass fed cows. The milk naturally contains both A1 and A2 Casein proteins. Our milk contains natural levels of the different A1 & A2 milk proteins which are subject to seasonal variations.
Unlike our Organic Grass Fed Formula – our Bubs Goat Milk formula is sourced from natural, Australian goat milk and not cow milk. Goat Milk is A2 goat protein, which is naturally gentle and easier to digest, for those with more sensitive tummies.

What are the probiotics used & why are they used?

Bubs products utilise probiotic Bifidobacterium longum (BB536). Bifidobacterium longum is one of the most predominate bacteria in healthy infants and is present in the gastrointestinal tract across all stages of life. It plays an integral role in metabolising prebiotics such as galacto-oligosaccharides and fructo-oligosaccharides
Bifidobacterium longum, GOS and FOS together reduce the incidence of diarrhea in infants as well as reducing constipation and promoting optimal stool characteristics

Does your cows milk formula contain prebiotics & probiotics?

Yes! Bubs Organic formula range contains both Prebiotics & Probiotics. Our formula contains Prebiotic Galacto-Oligosaccarides (GOC) and the Probiotic strain called Bifidobacterium longum (BB536)

Are DHA and ARA ingredients gentle on tummies?

DHA & ARA should not be difficult to digest and they are added at very small amounts. Unlike some manufacturers who use fish oil as the source, we use a plant-based source . If your child is allergic to fish, it could explain the reaction to other formulas and we would recommend seeking medical advice on this. The benefit of our plant-based DHA & ARA, is the removal of any potential fish allergen risk, as well as no fishy smell or after-taste, which could occur in some other formulas which use fish oil as a source.

Does your cow formula contain Omega -3 DHA & Omega -6 ARA?

                                                              Yes!

Bubs Organic formula range contains DHA (Omegsa-3) and ARA (Omega -6). These are long chain fatty acids.

What does PPO+ stand for in organic cows milk formula?

Bubs advanced organic grass-fed formulation carries a PPO+ icon. The PPO+symbol stands for our high-quality ingredients & formulation, including Prebiotics, Probiotics, Organic Plus (PPO+) other nutrients to help support your growing baby and toddlers nutritional needs.

Our additional nutrients include DHA & ARA as well as 16 or more additions vitamins & minerals (depending on the formula stage)

                                                                Bubs Supreme

What is the difference between Organic Cows Milk Formula & Supreme?

Bubs Organic cows milk formula contains milk that may contain the presence of A1 casein proteins. Bubs Supreme utilises cows that are specially selected and genetically tested to ensure they only produce milk that contains A2-beta casein proteins.

What is A2 Beta Casein Protein Milk?

A2 beta-casein is a protein found in some cow milk. In comparison to A1 protein A2 beta-casein proteins assist easier digestion due to its slower digestion time. A2 milk is also associated with reducing digestive discomfort and inflammation when consumed.

                                                                What is A2 Milk?

A2 milk is milk that only contains A2 beta-casein proteins and lacks the presence of A1 casein proteins.

                                                                Goat Milk Specific Information

What’s the difference between adult goat milk and goat milk toddler or infant formula?

The big difference between the two is adult goat milk is not fortified and unlike infant formula, is not specifically developed for the nutritional and digestive needs of infants. During the first 1,000 days of life, we need to ensure children are getting the proper amount vitamins & minerals, including folate, which is not found in goat milk. That’s why infant and toddler formula is so important – they are fortified with exactly the right vitamins and minerals needed for a child’s healthy growth and development.

Is Bubs Goat Milk Gluten Free?

Yes, Bubs Goat Milk is gluten free.

What is the ratio of whey protein & casein protein in the goat formula?

For Bubs Goat Milk formula, the whey to Casein ration changes with the formula and with the changing nutritional demand for babies.

For example, Stages 1 & 2 have 60% whey protein and 40% casein. In stage 3, it drops to the natural levels of whey to casein in milk of around 80:20

Is your Palm oil in goat formula from a sustainable source?

                                                                  Yes, it is.

Once opened how long does your goats milk formula last?

We recommend using the tin within 4 weeks once opened. Alternatively, if the opened tin is stored in the fridge once opened, you could extend it by another couple of weeks.

However please note that once you take the tin out of the fridge, it needs to go back in quickly to avoid condensation and clumping of powder

Is your Goat Milk Formula suitable for suspected CMPA (Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy)?

Bubs goat formula and all goat milk products do contain the same milk protein that is found in cow’s milk protein, which is associated with the medical condition known as Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy. Therefore, Bubs Goat Milk formula, is not a suitable alternative for babies with diagnosed CMPA. If in doubt, we strongly advise that you discuss this with your healthcare professional first before deciding to introduce your baby to Goat Formula

Is there soy oil in Bubs Goat Milk Formula Stage 2 & 3?

No Bubs Goat Milk formulas do not contain soy oil.

However, they do contain naturally derived soy lecithin which is used as an emulsifier to reduce the likelihood of separation of the oils in the formula from the water used to hydrate the formula. The soy lecithin does not contain protein and should not contribute in any way to allergenic potential.

If you have any concerns, we strongly advise that you discuss this with your healthcare professional first before deciding to introduce your baby to Goat Formula.

Is the goats milk formula “nutritionally complete"?

Yes, our goat’s milk infant formula is nutritionally complete for infants from –0-6 months

Our formula range meets the strict Food Standards Australia & New Zealand (FSANZ) requirements.

All infant formulas in Australia MUST meet the complete nutritional needs to babies for the first 6 months before starting solids

Please also note, all our Bubs Infant Formula products also meet the nutritional requirements of the US Infant Formula Act.

Is goat milk formula only recommended for babies with sensitive tummies?

Not necessarily. Goat milk naturally supports gentle digestion and may be a good alternative for other babies, not just those with sensitive tummies.

However, it is important that for babies with any possible allergies, to consult with a health care professional. For any special needs baby who have been advised to only use a specialty formula, such as fully or partially hydrolysed formulations, then any dairy based formula, cannot be used

Why would I use Goat Milk Infant Formula?

Goat milk infant formula is proven to be a safe and suitable alternative to cow and soy formulas and is growing in popularity around the world. In fact, goat milk as an adult dairy milk, is consumed by more people around the world than cow milk, due to its accessibility and traditional use as an easier to digest source of dairy protein.

Bubs Goat Milk formula contains all the same essential nutrients as cow milk formulas and meets all stringent nutritional guidelines set out in Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ). The standards clearly define the nutritional content limits and our products deliver the optimum amount of carbohydrate, protein content, etc. according to these standards. The key ingredients in our formula are goat milk solids (>40% goat whole milk and goat whey), vegetable oil blend and essential fatty acids. We also add 16 vitamins and minerals, and advanced supplements: DHA Omega-3, ARA Omega-6, and prebiotic GOS for optimum nutrition, growth and development.

Goat milk formula has several key features that have greater similarity to breast milk compared to cow milk formula. For example, goat milk has a higher content of medium chain fatty acids (MCFA) than cow milk.

The main attraction to a goat formula is its natural digestibility and lower levels of lactose. Unlike cow milk, goat milk does not contain agglutinin. As a result, the fat globules in goat milk do not cluster together, making them easier to digest. Goat milk also contains more essential fatty acids which make it easier for intestinal enzymes to digest. Goat milk contains only trace amounts of an allergenic casein protein, alpha-S1, that is found in cow milk. It is thought that this is why goat milk is better tolerated than cow milk by some babies.

Goat milk typically forms smaller fat globules and softer curd than cow milk protein, so it naturally supports gentle digestion. Parents often comment that after switching their baby from cow formula to Bubs goat formula, the number and consistency of bowel movements improve and closely resemble those when they were fed breast milk. Parents who have babies that regularly regurgitate cow milk formula have told us their baby can tolerate goat milk and settle easily.

Whilst our Bubs Australian Goat Milk is not certified organic, you can rest assured our goat milk product is free from any artificial additives, including preservatives and added hormones. In addition, our goat milk farmers are required to meet strict requirements on farming practices including pesticide use. Plus, just like the rest of our Bubs Formula range, our Bubs Australian Goat Milk formula products, have been certified as clean label, and awarded the Clean Label Purity Award. This means they have been independently, and third party validated as pure nutrition free from heavy metals, pesticide residues, plasticizers and other chemicals and toxins

For mums who are able to, breastfeeding is best for babies. It delivers many benefits for both mum and baby. Breastmilk contains all the nutrients your growing bub needs to thrive, especially in the first 6 months of life, plus antibodies to help them fight infections.

It’s important for pregnant and breastfeeding mums to maintain good nutrition. Deciding to use a combination of breast and bottle-feeding for an extended period may reduce your own breast milk supply, and reversing your decision may be difficult.

When using infant formula, follow the feeding guide and preparation directions carefully. Improper use or incorrect preparation of infant formula can make your baby ill.

Consult your doctor or health care professional for advice prior to using the formula to feed your baby. You should also consider the social and financial implications before deciding to use infant formula.
